De drijvende markt is een overblijfsel van de tijd dat er in Thailand bijna geen wegen waren en dit de makkelijkste manier van handel drijven was.

Tegenwoordig zijn drijvende markten één van de grootste toeristische attracties in de regio. Er worden dan ook echte Thaise producten getoond en soms kan er geproefd en gekocht worden.

As the name implies, the market will be held on water. In the past, due to bad infrastructure, daily commerce in Thailand was conducted mostly along rivers and canals (or khlongs in Thai).  Bangkok’s water network was busy and served as the principal means of communication.

The best known floating market in Thailand is Damnoen Saduak. Every morning, hundreds of boats crowd the market area. Mainly, paddled by women with picturesque straw hats. Here, you can find practically everything from vegetables and fruits to freshly-cooked noodles and souvenirs.

 Nowadays the floating market becomes one of the most popular tourist attractions.
